Canon Sd1200Is - Great Little Camera!
When our Fuji digital camera quit, I started investigating cameras and was happy to discover this little Canon camera. I purchased it based on its excellent reviews, both here and elsewhere. We couldn't afford a more expensive camera, but still wanted a camera that produced good pictures. This camera produces very nice pictures. It's cute, small (fits in the palm of your hand)and so very easy to use. I figured much of it out without even opening the book up. Later, after having some difficulties with blurring on shots with my kids moving, I downloaded the accompanying disc and found the information I needed.
Change it to the program mode and set the camera on kids/pets- problem solved. No more blurriness. I also love to switch it to black and white or sepia photos (also in the program mode). Believe me, I'm not technologically inclined, but this camera is a cinch to use! Plus, the video mode is SO easy! It was great to be able to switch it to video mode the other night and catch my kids decorating the Christmas tree while singing Christmas carols. The battery lasts a very long time and is a breeze to charge- and charges very quickly as well. I love this camera!
Canon SD1200IS
My wife and I were strolling through the store when she spotted this camera and said that she wanted her own camera, since I hogged the family camera, and that this one was cute. She was ready to purchase immediately, which I talked her out of doing. As a photographer I knew that these decisions took research, reading reviews on the internet and getting potential candidates in your hands to be scrutinized. After two weeks of consideration my research led me to the same camera that she had liked because of its' size and color.
Canon makes a great camera. Every digital still camera I've owned has been a Canon. This camera offers image stabilization, which is a must, and delivers a 10mp image. The mega pixal race has gotten out of hand, being an easy selling point of more pixals must mean better imaging. This is not the case. Often more pixals means more image noise, takes up more space on your computer and requires bigger memory cards.
At any rate, this camera is compact, offers enough shooting variations to please someone with a background in photography and, as my wife says, is cute.
About the Author
im going to buy a camera from kmart, which one is better, canon A430, Fuji Finepix A400 or Kodak C533?
The question "model X vs. Y vs. Z?" pops up several times a day here.
For in depth and honest reviews of digital cameras (including value for money), there are two great sites. See if they have a full review of the cameras you're considering:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/default.asp?view=alpha
http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html
At dpreview you can aso compare the technical specifications of those cameras side by side:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sidebyside.asp
This may be tedious, but it's better than listening to someone who just loves their A430 but doesn't know the 2 other models (no offence, Jennifer.) I also disagree that ALL Canons have better lenses than ALL Kodaks. In fact, the Kodaks that I've used were pretty amazing. There are just too many models to make sweeping generalizations.
Happy hunting!
