Will apapter for olympus to nikon lenses work?
I found an adapter to be able to mount nikon lenses to the olympus body, does this really work, any suggestions or recomendations? my goal get longer focal length a cheaper pricing...
It will work up to a point.
If you have a nikon G series or DX lens then there is no mechanical aperture ring, you want something like an Ai or AF-D type of lens, otherwise you will have no aperture control.
The lens may rest at its smallest aperture (Nikon pro and MF bodies have a small pin to force the aperture open for a bright viewfinder during focusing)
There will be no communication between the body and the lens, so forget autofocus, forget modes such as programme auto or aperutre priority. Manual will probably be your only option.
Even then you may will need to focus, stop the aperture down, test expose, review reset, test expose etc until you can actually take a shot.
The lens will be subject to at least a 2x telephoto conversion (the olympus 4/3rds system is half the area of 35mm and fullframe systems) plus there may be a conversion factor with the adaptor as well.
On the subject of the adaptor, if there is no optical element then the odds are you will have a different back focus register than the lens was designed for, so you will lose inifinity focus.
If there is a correction lens in then it would need to be very good quality and well coated to avoid ghosting from the sensor and internal flare. Cheap adaptors sourced from auction sites will not be very good.
FInally, you will not source nikon lens cheaply, they are a premium brand, if you have a suitable manual focus manual exposure lens then it will probably date from the film era, the 4/3rd system has optimised lenses to make the most of their telecentric lenses, a film lens isn't as rigid in the way the light passes through, if it hits the sensor at an acute angle you will get fringing, sensor vignetting...
All of which is a long way of saying don't do it.
Buy cheap buy twice.
Save up for the Olympus tele lens (or sigma equivalent) and enjoy AF, automation and good qaulity images.
Far less hassle.
